The Family Digital Pact

This is the agreement your family writes together and everybody signs. You pick the lines that actually fit your house, your kids put their names on it, and it goes somewhere everyone can see it.

It works because your kids helped decide it. A rule you hand down gets argued with, but an agreement they had a say in tends to stick, and when it does get broken you've got something to point at that everyone already agreed to instead of a fight starting from nothing.

There are eighteen agreements to pick from, covering phones at night, what happens before a new app gets downloaded, dinner, homework, and what to do when something online goes wrong. Use two of them or all of them, and add your own if the one you need isn't there.

It's free, it takes about ten minutes, and you can change it whenever your family changes.

Calm guidance for raising kids in a digital world.
I'm Chelsea, and I built this for parents like me, the ones who needed a calm guide for the tech part of raising kids and couldn't find one anywhere.
I'm here to be a friend in your pocket.
I'm a stay-at-home mom of a son and a daughter in elementary school, and I was a kid who was deep in tech back when it wasn't on anyone's radar yet.
The Digital Childhood is what I wish my parents had when I was a kid, and what I wish I had now, so I created it.
There was plenty to read. What was missing was the translation: what does this mean for my kid, what should I do, and what do I actually say?
Before the app
After Cornell, I spent my career in HR, first at Capital One and then at the American Enterprise Institute, taking complicated things like benefits and company policies and making them easy for people to actually use.
It's the same work I do now, just with a different subject. I take the tech our kids are growing up with, figure out what parents actually need from it, and make it easier to handle.

Our approach
We're not anti-technology here. We just want the tech part of raising kids to feel a lot less overwhelming for you.
Technology is part of growing up today, and we want kids to use it well, so the app explains the tech they’re actually using, gives you the words for the hard moments, and leaves plenty of room for childhood to still feel like childhood.

The Digital Childhood draws on research and reporting from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Common Sense Media, the Surgeon General's advisory on social media and youth mental health, the Wait Until 8th movement, Pew Research, and the work of Jonathan Haidt, among others. We try to anchor advice in real research.
What this app is not›
The Digital Childhood is meant to be a calm starting point for your family, and it isn’t a replacement for a pediatrician, therapist, or any licensed professional. If something feels bigger than a conversation, that’s when to call them. Leaf, the Ask feature, is an AI helper that answers from my scripts and explainers. It isn’t a person, and it isn’t a doctor. And if you or your child is ever in crisis, 988 is the 24/7 lifeline by call or text in the US.

Every family is different. This is what we do in our house, so you have a clear answer to start from.
The short version
  • No smartphone until they get their license, at 16.
  • No social media until then either.
  • No smartphone or internet of their own until high school.
  • Until then, a Tin Can or the landline for calls, and in middle school, texting on a flip phone.

Ohio required every school district to adopt an AI policy by July 2026, and Tennessee has required one since 2024. Idaho, Maryland, Oklahoma and Virginia have passed laws that put state AI guidance and district policies in place too. Asking your school where it stands is a fair question.
