Why Kids Watch Other People Play on Twitch
Twitch is where kids watch people play games live and chat with them in real time, and some kids stream themselves. Watching a favorite streamer is mostly fine. I'd pay a lot more attention when your kid is the one on camera, or deep in live chat with strangers.
Why this matters for your kid
Live chat means strangers can talk to your kid while it's happening, and a streamer plus their chat can start to feel like a group of friends. If your kid streams themselves, they're putting themselves out there to people you can't see, and that's really different from watching.
What it's like for your kid
Watching feels like hanging out. Streaming feels like being seen and getting attention, and that's a big deal to a kid. The hard part is that the attention can come from adults who know exactly how to use it, and kids on camera will give away their name, their town, or when they go live without ever thinking about who's listening.
Watching or streaming, and why it matters
First find out whether your kid only watches or streams too. If they're streaming, the rules are no real name, no location, no set schedule like "I go live at four every day," and donations and private messages turned off. Watching a streamer they like with the chat turned off is a much calmer place to start.
