TikTok's For You page is carefully tuned to your child. It figures out what keeps them watching and serves up more of it, and it gets good at that really fast.
Why this matters for your kid
TikTok tracks how long they pause, whether they replay, and what they skip, and it builds a detailed model of what keeps your specific child engaged from every single tap, so the feed they see is custom-built, tap by tap, to be almost impossible for them to put down.
What your child experiences
The content might be funny or emotional or appearance-focused, whatever they respond to most, and TikTok is built to keep them watching as long as possible, and it’s very good at keeping them there, whatever that ends up meaning for your kid.
What you might notice
You might hear 'I can't stop,' or notice their mood dips after a long stretch, or that what they are shown slowly gets more intense. That is not them. That is the algorithm doing exactly what it was built to do. Naming it out loud helps more than taking the phone.
