Why Kids Have a Second Account
Lots of teenagers on Instagram or TikTok have more than one account, usually a public one and a smaller private one, and the private one is where they post the real stuff.
Why kids make a second one
Their main account turns into a show for everybody they've ever met, and that's exhausting. So the second one is where they post the messy, unedited version for a few close friends. That's actually a healthy instinct, and I'd keep that in mind before you decide what to do about it.
A private account can still get shared
A close friends list of eight people is still eight phones that can take a screenshot. A private account decides who can scroll it, but it can't control where anything ends up. Once a kid really believes that, it changes what they post.
Why banning it backfires
A second account takes about a minute to make, and all it needs is an email address. If you tell your kid they can't have one, you'll mostly end up with one you don't know about. So I'd rather know it's there, even if it's not what I would have picked.
