EdTech is everywhere in classrooms right now, and a lot of parents are wondering what it means.
There's growing research questioning whether more technology actually improves learning for young kids.
After reading the research myself
I made a small choice for my own kids.
I asked my kids' teachers if paper-and-pencil could be an option when possible. The teacher was willing, and she said it could be pencil-and-paper when feasible. Some tools are district-required and can't be opted out of, but the conversation was respectful and solution-focused. That's all I was hoping for.
The research behind this
When kids write things out, their brains slow down and engage with the material in a totally different way. The goal isn't to remove all technology, just to be thoughtful about when and why we use it.
This isn't anti-tech, it's pro-childhood. The order matters: awareness first, then education, and access last.
