Our Story
She explained AI better than I ever could
I was trying to explain it and she beat me to it.
We were talking about AI at the kitchen table. I was trying to explain why I don't want her using ChatGPT to write her essays, why I want her to think first and use AI to help instead of replace her thinking. She listened, and then she said:
What she said
"You're the doctor. AI is the nurse. You don't want AI to become the doctor and you become the nurse."
I stopped, because that was it, better than anything I'd said. She got it completely, and it came from a conversation where I gave her enough to think with and then got out of the way and let her think. That's the whole point of this app.
The takeaway
When kids really understand how something works, they start building their own judgment, and that tends to stick with them a lot longer than a rule does.
