Nudify Apps

Explained for parents by The Digital Childhood.

What it means

Apps and websites that take a normal photo of someone with their clothes on and use AI to make a fake nude of them. Kids have used them on classmates, sometimes from a yearbook or Instagram picture. A fake nude of a minor is treated as child sexual abuse material, and since May 2026 the big apps have to take one down within 48 hours of a report.

How to bring it up with your kid

"There are apps that can make a fake naked picture of anybody from a normal photo. If you ever see one of someone you know, or of you, tell me right away. It isn't your fault and you're not in trouble." I'd also tell them plainly that making or sharing one is a crime, even as a joke.
