Mewing
Explained for parents by The Digital Childhood.
What it means
A jaw-positioning technique (tongue pressed to roof of mouth) claimed online to reshape facial structure over time. It went viral on TikTok, and it’s based on fringe ideas about teeth and jaws that mainstream science doesn’t back up. It's physically harmless, and it feeds into a wider stream of appearance-focused content that's worth being aware of.
How to bring it up with your kid
"I've seen that mewing trend. What have you heard about it?" This is a good one to talk through, because TikTok mixes real health stuff with made-up stuff about how your face should look, and kids can't always tell which is which.
