What it means
A messaging and voice/video chat platform built for gaming communities but widely used by teens. Has public servers (communities anyone can join) and private servers. Most is harmless, but some servers contain adult content or radicalizing spaces. Discord is built for older teens, not younger kids.
How to bring it up with your kid
"Are you on Discord? What servers are you in?" It's worth knowing which communities your kid is part of. Discord's private, persistent nature makes it harder to spot issues than social media.
