What it means
Used to mock someone for refusing to accept reality. "That is cope." "Copium" is a fake drug for people in denial. Mostly online debate culture but increasingly used in everyday teen conversation, often to dismiss feelings rather than engage with them.
How to bring it up with your kid
"What does cope mean to you when you use it?" If it is mostly online banter, fine. If it is being used to shut down a friend's real feelings, that is worth naming gently.
