Brain Rot

What it means
Kids’ own name for mindless, silly content that feels pointless but is weirdly hard to stop watching, and they know it when they say it. "This video is pure brain rot." It was Oxford’s Word of the Year in 2024. Kids use it with irony to describe low-quality content they can't stop watching.
How to bring it up with your kid
"I keep hearing brain rot. Do you think some of what you watch counts?" Kids will usually admit it, and then you can talk about how much of their time online they'd actually want back.
