What it means

A social media app that sends a daily notification prompting users to share an unfiltered photo within 2 minutes. It was made to be the opposite of polished highlight reels, but kids still retake the photo and stress about the timing, and they still compare themselves to their friends' "authentic" moments.

How to bring it up with your kid

"Are you on BeReal? Does it feel more real than the other apps?" Even the app that's supposed to be real turns into pressure for a lot of kids, so it's worth hearing what they think.
