AI Influencers
Explained for parents by The Digital Childhood.
What it means
Accounts on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube for people who don't exist. The face, the body, the voice and the perfect routine are all made with AI, and a lot of them are selling skincare, diet or fitness stuff. The apps ask creators to label AI content, but that depends on the creator saying so, and a lot of them don't. So kids end up comparing themselves to somebody who isn't even real.
How to bring it up with your kid
"Did you know some of the accounts you follow aren't real people? Let's look at one together." If someone's routine looks too perfect, ask who's behind the account and what they're selling.
