The laptop or tablet school hands your kid usually comes with filters that only work during school hours and on the school network, so the same device behaves completely differently once it is sitting on your kitchen table.
Why the school filter stops at the door
Most districts filter by network, so the blocking happens because the device is on school wifi rather than because it is built into the device. Once it joins your home wifi a lot of that protection is simply not running, and nobody tells parents that, so families assume the school took care of it.
What the school account can still see
School devices are usually managed, which means the district can see browsing history and installed apps and can often push software onto them. That cuts both ways: your kid has less privacy than they think, and you have less control than the district does, so you are the one party in this with no dashboard.
Where the loophole usually is
The gap is almost never the browser. It is the parts nobody thought to filter, so look at the document app where kids chat in the comments of a shared file, the built-in email that can reach anyone, and any game site that happens to be allowed because a teacher used it once.
